Kerckeplaes farm: one in a million

Kerckeplaes farm, owned by Kees and Jeannette Nieuweboer has a rich history. Its name is derived from the fact that the farm used to be owned by the Dutch Reformed Church in Aartswoud. In 1963, the church wanted to discard of the farm and issued a lottery to determine who would be allowed to buy. The Nieuweboer family were the lucky ones.

The farm, with 70 ha of pasture, always hums with activity. The Nieuweboer family keeps about 100 cows and grows corn as well as tulips. The farm is beautifully situated on the Kolkweg and offers a splendid view all around. Villages like Aartswoud, Hoogwoud, Abbekerk and De Weere are clearly visible from the farmyard, as is the Omringdijk.

Things to explore

As you take the path to the farm, you pass a splendid water mill. The ‘Westuit nr.7’ was built in the year 1560 AD. It is the only remaining mill of the 26 located between Aartswoud and Medemblik and was used for water regulation purposes. These windmills became obsolete by the introduction of the steam driven pumping station in Medemblik in the year 1904. Over time, the original mills disappeared from the scenery. Fortunately, this (still operative) mill has passed the test of time.

Familie Nieuweboer welcomes you to their farm. As you receive your Restinn cabin key, please do not hesitate to ask any questions or make any additional wishes known to your host and/or hostess.
